Government Requirement Regarding Wearing of Face Masks/Face Coverings

Dear Parents/Carers and Students,

As you would now be aware, in line with advice from the Victorian Chief Health Officer, the Victorian Government has announced that those in Metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell shire must wear a face covering/mask when they leave home starting on Thursday 23 July.

Face coverings/masks will be mandatory for people aged 12 and over. These measures will slow the spread of the coronavirus and help protect the community.

This means in schools all school based staff and students attending onsite will be required to wear a face covering/mask.  Teachers and Education support staff will not be required to wear a face covering/mask while teaching a lesson, but those who wish to do so, can.

All secondary students attending onsite will need to wear a face covering or mask. This includes when commuting to and from school. I anticipate that most staff and students will supply their own face covering/mask. Schools are due to receive some single use face masks this week to assist in providing to students if they have been unable to access one by Thursday. However, given these are disposable masks, this supply will run out very quickly. Therefore it is critical that parents are able to organise a suitable face covering/mask ASAP for their child/ren.

All students should read the attachment about how to safely wear your face mask.

A couple of other reminders:

  • Semester 1 reports were released to parents and students on Friday via compass. Please make sure you have taken the time to read this report and discuss with your child/ren.
  • All Year 10 students who are studying a VCE subject/s must attend onsite for this lesson. Please sign in and out at reception.

The Hub has been set aside for these students to complete their other lessons remotely, if they are unable to get home in time in between lessons.

Thank you to all parents and students for your ongoing support. If you have any questions, please email mordialloc.co@education.vic.gov.au or call the general office who can direct your enquiry to the most appropriate person.

Please stay well and safe.
