On the morning of Thursday 27 July, Mordialloc College’s Year 7 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students participated in the their first workshop run by the Kingston Koorie Mob. This took place at the newly established Gathering Place in the Mordialloc Life Saving Club. The event, which also involved students from Parkdale College, required students to design a story book based on Koorie myths and legends. The students had the opportunity to meet with Koorie Elder, Aunty Faye, who assisted the students in translating their work into the BoonWurrung language. A wonderful time was had by everyone involved and we are looking forward to the second workshop where the students will illustrate their books. Eventually, the books will be read to primary school students as a way of sharing the traditional land owner’s language and culture.
